Telematics, cabin camera, data sharing
Tesla
Tesla generates ~25 GB of telemetry per hour of driving. Unlike GM, Hyundai, and Honda, Tesla does NOT resell telematics to third-party insurers — but data sharing, cabin camera analytics, and road-segment uploads are on by default.
Disable Data Sharing
ManualHigh'Data Sharing' controls the upload of vehicle analytics, diagnostic data, and trip summaries to Tesla servers. Disabling reduces (not eliminates) what leaves the car. Tesla warns some features may degrade.
Disable Cabin Camera Analytics
ManualHighReuters documented Tesla employees sharing cabin camera footage internally (April 2023). Tesla says cabin camera data is processed on-device; disabling Cabin Camera Analytics is the definitive opt-out.
Disable Road Segment Data Sharing
ManualMediumRoad Segment Data uploads your driving paths, speed, and steering inputs to improve Autopilot. Turning it off stops route-level telemetry while preserving core Autopilot function on your vehicle.
Request your data or delete your Tesla Account
ManualMediumTesla's Privacy Support page lets you request a copy of the data associated with your account or delete the account entirely. This is the equivalent of a GDPR/CCPA DSAR. Sign in to your Tesla Account and select 'Data & Privacy' → 'Delete Account', or use the Tesla app's account settings.
